MLB: 2018 Season Previews – American League East: Archrivals among themselves
In the American League East, the great rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees has been re-ignited. Both of them have upgraded strongly and seem to be on the verge of identifying the division among themselves. There are many question marks behind it.
The Orioles offensive was not the problem in 2017 either. Now the pitching staff is getting bitterness reinforced by the commitments of Andrew Cashner and Alex Cobb. And since Manny Machado’s contract expires, an enormous increase in performance can also be expected from him, as he wants to make a lasting recommendation for new employers.
Even with Cashner and Cobb, the press will not be strong enough to keep up with the great powers from New York and Boston. Mark Trumbo (Designated Hitter) starts the year on the DL and First Baseman Chris Davis is already tarnished. Eventually owner Peter Angelos loses his patience and trades Machado away for a deadline.
Forecast: 3rd place in the AL East.
