MLB: Dodgers dismiss NBA star Klay Thompson’s brother Trayce
The Los Angeles Dodgers have split up with Outfielder Trayce Thompson. NBA star Klay Thompson’s brother has lost the competition in the current National League Champion.
Thompson was one of many candidates for a squad seat in the busy Dodgers’ outfield, consisting of Chris Taylor, Yasiel Puig, Matt Kemp, Joc Pederson and Andrew Toles. Thompson no longer had any minor league options and was therefore designated for assignment, which means that the team now has seven days to trade, release or transfer him to the minor leagues.
The move was necessary because the Dodgers needed a place in the 40-player squad for right-handed Cory Mazzoni, whom they had signed up with Waiver Wire from the Chicago Cubs.
“It was a tough decision,” said Manager Dave Roberts. “Trayce is doing some good things. But where our squad is in terms of performance and since there are no opportunities for him to prove himself, it simply could not go any further for him.”
In 20 games in jump training, Thompson beat .255 with a home run and 2 RBI. In 2016 he played 80 games for the Dodgers and hit 13 home runs.
