Ice Hockey: WM 2018: Dates, schedule, all information about the tournament

The World Ice Hockey Championship is just around the corner. Who will be crowned in 2018? Will the German Olympic heroes create another surprise? SPOX has all the information about the tournament in Denmark for you and explains where you can follow all the matches live.

After the sensational success with silver at the Olympic Winter Games, it will be interesting to see how far the team of national coach Marco Sturm will go at this year’s World Cup.

The best result Germany has achieved in a World Cup this decade was fourth place in 2010, with the DEB team reaching the quarter-finals in the last two years.

The World Cup will take place in Denmark from 4 to 20 May.

The game will be played in the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, which has a capacity of 12,500 spectators. The second venue is the Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning (11,000 spectators).

DAZN shows all matches of the Ice Hockey World Championship 2018 live. Games with German participation and other selected matches will also be broadcast on Free TV on Sport1.

The game is played in two groups of eight teams. In the group stage everyone plays against everyone. The four best players in each group qualify for the quarter-finals.

The last in Groups A and B are relegated to Division IA. As host of the 2019 World Cup, Slovakia cannot relegate to this tournament.

Group A matches will all take place in Copenhagen, where the semi-finals and the final will also take place. Group B plays their games in Herning.

The German squad for the World Cup has not yet been determined. But there is already good news: Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers is in the DEB line-up for the two test matches against France.

Patrick Reimer and Marcel Goc from the Olympic squad, who surprisingly won silver in Pyoengchang, will no longer be there. Both finished their national team careers in April.

The German team is testing twice against France in the Euro Hockey Challenge. The games will take place on April 19 in Wolfsburg and on April 21 in Berlin.
