NFL: Barkley, Nelson and Co – the Top-Offense Prospects in the Draft
The draft in Dallas is just around the corner and it is high time to look at the so-called true talent. So which players are potentially the strongest in the draft year, regardless of their best fit? SPOX shows the top 10 offense, all three draft days will be live and in the original commentary on DAZN.
Lamar Jackson is one of the big question marks on the quarterback position. His athletic skills immediately remind football fans of Michael Vick, Jackson was the most dynamic college player of the last two years. He has a good arm and prefers receivers on in routes.
However, the footwork and throws are worrying after Jackson leaves the pocket. It would benefit his accuracy and constancy if he lowered his centre of gravity during the litters. In Louisville Jackson also played almost exclusively from the shotgun formation. If he works on his throwing mechanism, Jackson can become an excellent playmaker. At the same time, however, it is a risk prospect.
Sony Michel acted at Georgia in an RB tandem with Nick Chubb, who also signed up for the draft. Michel ran for an average of 7.9 yards per run and 1,227 yards at 16 touchdowns. His overview is excellent. It recognizes blocks and gaps well, can free itself from contact and breaks out for long runs.
Although he fell short of expectations in the 40-yard dash, some teams fear that he will not be available in the second round. Michel also convinces with his route running and his general skills as a receiver. Comparisons with Kareem Hunt are often made.
Even an injury during the bench press on the Combine should only have a limited effect on Price’s draft placement. Price convinced both at the Training Camp in September and at the games in the 2017 season.
His athletic abilities are above average and his movements are fast, so he can also defend larger spaces. Price also defends the nose tackle position very well. Scouts expect the four-year-long starter in Ohio State to have a long career as a starting center in the NFL with run-blocking preferences.
Calvin Ridley is rated as the clear best receiver in this year’s draft. It immediately attracts attention for its enormous explosiveness and was used in’Bama on the outer track as well as in the slot. Ridley scored more points for his Route Running and his good hands at the Combine.
After another strong season with 55 matches for 967 yards and four touchdowns, however, he was already considered the favourite for the first wide receiver pick in the draft. Ridley’s numbers have been heavily trimmed by focusing on running and quarterback Jalen Hurts’ passing limitations at Crimson Tide. Ridley’s game is clearly based on his strengths in speed and route running. Physically, he may face some initial problems in the NFL.
Mike McGlinchey has played both left and right tackle positions in his college career. He was convincing not only with his great measurements, but also with his fast movements, which made him agile enough to defend the edge as well as block against the run.
Accordingly, he was one of the main persons responsible for Notre Dame’s strong run-open-mindedness. Although he also had one or two games in which there were problems, he is the best offensive tackle in the upcoming draft class.
