NHL: Playoffs: Crosby shoots pens to edge victory
Superstar Sidney Crosby led the Pittsburgh Penguins to a canters victory at the start of the NHL playoffs. The Canadian scored three goals in the Stanley Cup Champion’s 7-0 defeat of the Philadelphia Flyers.
In addition to Crosby, who scored 5-0, 6-0 and 7-0, Jake Guentzel overtook with one goal and three assists. Tom Kühnhackl received 12:46 minutes ice time, but remained without scorer point.
“It was just the first game. It doesn’t matter whether it’s won 7-0, 1-0 or only in the second overtime,” said Crosby: “In the playoffs it’s all about improving from game to game.
Meanwhile, the Vegas Golden Knights also took the lead in the best-of-seven series. The newly founded team defeated Tobias Rieder’s Los Angeles Kings 1-0 and Shea Theodore scored the only goal in the 4th minute, Rieder scored 14:14 minutes.
In the third game of the day, the Winnipeg Jets beat Minnesota Wild 3-2. Joe Morrow provided seven minutes before the end for the game winner.
