MLB: Dodgers beat Marlins at Top-Prospect Buehler launch debut
The Los Angeles Dodgers (11-10) won 2:1 against the Miami Marlins (9-17) on Monday. Top-Prospect Walker Buehler made his season debut, while Backup-Shortstop Kike Hernandez shone several times.
Within the first three innings of the game, Hernandez (3-4) already shone with two strong defensive plays, each of which prevented very probable hits. In the fourth inning, he finally beat the solo Homun to the lead for Los Angeles.
However, the decision was only made in the eighth inning. After Miami were balanced by an RBI single by Brian Anderson, the Dodgers fought back in the same section of the game. Cody Bellinger scored the Sacrifice Fly 2-1, after which Reliever Josh Fields got his first save of the season.
Buehler pitched five shutout innings in his MLB debut. He gave away four hits and three walks and did five strikeouts. Buehler is considered the best prospect of the Dodgers organization and was already allowed to sniff MLB air last year, but only appeared as a relief pitcher.
The Dodgers won for the seventh time in their last eight games and are back in the standings above .500 for the first time since last season.
