MLB: Semien leads Oakland Athletics to third victory in a row

The Oakland Athletics (12-11) have beaten the Texas Rangers (8-16) 9-4 thanks to a brilliant ninth inning, expanding their winning streak to three games. Shortstop Marcus Semien started the late rally with a home run.

At 3-3 at the beginning of the ninth inning, Semien (2-6, 2 R) stepped to the record and hit a solo Homun in the bleachers in Left Field. The A’s then woke up and made five more inning runs to make the decision.

“We pitch well, we beat pretty well”, Semien attested: “We were quite optimistic. Then we had some injuries in jumping training, which became our only problem. But the boys jumped into the breach.”

The Rangers had equalled Robinson Chirinos’ 2-Run-Homerun to 3:3 in the fourth inning, whereupon both fought hard. Both Starting Pitcher, Trevor Cahill at the A’s and Matt Moore on the side of the hosts pitched five innings each and made three runs.

“We play well,” said Second Baseman Jed Lowrie (2-4, R, BB) about the current form of his team: “Our biggest challenge as a young team will be to stay constant, because it is a long year and with young, talented players it is always about consistency at this level. “If we stay at a good level, it’ll be fun.”

With this success, Oakland have now won three games in a row after their two successes against the Red Sox and seven of the last eight. This is the first time since the season opener that they are above the .500 mark.
