MLB: Head cut open: Tommy Pham of the St. Louis Cardinals must leave the game

Tommy Pham suffered an extremely curious injury on Wednesday. The St. Louis Cardinals Center Fielder had to leave the field early in the game against the New York Mets with an injury because he had cut his head in the warm-up cage.

“I worked in a cage on my swing,” Pham described the situation. The 30-year-old usually uses an elastic band to increase resistance during vibration exercises.

Pham lost his grip on the bat, which bounced off the fence. “That thing hit me right in the head. When the blood began to flow down like this, I knew we had to fix it,” Pham said.

In the third inning the day had run for him, Harrison Bader took over his position. After the game, however, Pham was once again available for jokes: “I’m doing so well, except for this wound on my head. “My modeling career definitely got a setback.”

The game was won by the Cardinals 9:1. Last season Pham led all Cardinals players with 6.1 WAR. Behind Mike Trout (Angels, 6.9) and Charlie Blackmon (Rockies, 6.5) he was the third best Center Fielder in this statistic.
