Ice hockey: DEL: Dominik Kahun apparently moves to the NHL

Dominik Kahun apparently moves from EHC Red Bull Munich to NHL club Chicago Blackhawks. According to Sport Bild, the 22-year-old international will sign a two-year contract.

“I had two big dreams. First, to be at the Olympic Games. Second: to play in the NHL”, Kahun is quoted: “I fulfilled my first dream in February in Pyeonchang, crowned by the sensational silver medal. Now the second dream is coming true. I’m completely happy.”

Kahun played in Canada during his junior years, but was not selected by any club in the 2014 NHL draft. Since then he has been wearing the EHC jersey, with which he won the third consecutive championship title on Thursday.

He was a convincing striker at the Olympic Games in South Korea and was instrumental in reaching the final. DEB President Franz Reindl said back then that Kahun was “a world-class player who can play in any league”.

Should Kahun actually move to the NHL, he would be, after Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton Oilers), Thomas Greiss (New York Islanders), Tom Kühnhackl (Pittsburgh Penguins), Philipp Grubauer (Washington Capitals), Korbinian Holzer (Anaheim Ducks), Tobias Rieder (Los Angeles Kings) and Dennis Seidenberg (New York Islanders), the eighth German in the world’s best ice hockey league (selected Playoffs matches live on DAZN).
