NBA: Phoenix Suns get first European coach

The Phoenix Suns have made NBA history. The team announced that Igor Kokoskov will be the new head coach in Arizona. The Serbian is the first head coach in the history of the league to come from Europe.

Kokoskov is currently still assistant coach for the Utah Jazz, who are still in the playoffs. After the two games in Houston, it’s in this series 1-1.

“We are delighted that Igor Kokoskov is the Phoenix Suns’ new Head Coach,” said Suns General Manager Ryan McDonough. “Igor has been a basketball pioneer his entire career and has a lot of experience. His teams have always focused on the development of players, a creative style of play and, of course, success”.

Kokoskov becomes the 19th Head Coach in the history of the Suns, in the past three years he worked in Utah. Overall, Kokoskov has worked as an assistant in the league since 2000, including with the Suns between 2008 and 2013.

However, he celebrated his greatest success last season when he sensationally clinched the European Championship title with the Slovenian national team with Goran Dragic and Luka Doncic.
