MLB: Statement victory! Yankees finish road trip successfully

The New York Yankees (21-10) have set an exclamation mark. In their 6-5 win over Houston Astros (20-13), they made a comeback in the ninth inning. Rookie Gleyber Torres made an important hit.

After the Yankees were already leading 3-0, starter Masahiro Tanaka broke into the seventh inning after six shutout innings and allowed for an Astros rally. All in all, the Japanese made three runs, while Reliever Chad Green made two more, including a home run by Carlos Correa in the eighth inning.

However, the Yankees returned in the ninth inning. Torres (1-3, 3 RBI) first managed a 2-run single to equalize 5-5, then Aaron Judge beat Aaron into an RBI Fielder’s choice at 6-5, and Closer Aroldis Chapman ended the match with a strikeout to a 101.4-mile-an-hour fastball against Jose Altuve.

“This team is super good right now. We’re on the same wavelength every day. We fight every day and try to win,” Torres told reporters.

“Our boys never let go,” manager Aaron Boone described his team. “They brought together some good at-bats late in the game to shoot the game. This is a pretty good day.”

The Yankees finished their current road trip 6-1 and won twelve of their last 13 games. The subsequent defeat of the Boston Red Sox (22-11) in the Texas Rangers also reduced the gap in the AL East to one game.
