NBA: Bucks may also consider Popovich Assistant as coach

The Milwaukee Bucks are apparently also considering Ettore Messina as head coach. In addition to the assistant coach of the San Antonio Spurs, the Bucks will also have talks with Steve Clifford and Monty Williams in the coming days.

According to ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski, there are about ten coach candidates on the Bucks list. David Fizdale, who was long considered the favourite for the vacant position in Milwaukee, signed a four-year contract with the New York Knicks last week.

Next to Fizdale, Williams was considered the hottest candidate. After his release from the New Orleans Pelicans in 2015, he worked in the Front Office of Spurs. San Antonio shouldn’t get in the way of a deal.

The same goes for Messina, Gregg Popovich’s right hand. According to Wojnarowski, the Texans have already allowed their assistant coach to meet with the Charlotte Hornets to negotiate a possible engagement.

The Hornets separated from Clifford after the end of the regular season, who is now also under discussion with the Bucks. However, the Phoenix Suns are also said to be interested in Clifford.

Joe Prunty, on the other hand, can’t hope to keep him busy. The 49-year-old, who took over temporarily for Jason Kidd during the season, was coached in the first playoff round by Brad Stevens, coach of the Boston Celtics. Especially the offense did not make a good impression under his direction.
