MLB: Mets put deGrom on Disabled List against expectations
The New York Mets have put pitcher Jacob deGrom on the Disabled List with an elbow injury. Actually, the right-hander should have started on Monday, despite the injury.
But in the end the Mets decided to be careful and put deGrom on the DL. The step is retroactive to last Thursday, so that it can already make its next start on 13 May in Philadelphia.
DeGrom overstretched his elbow when he swung the club, but no structural damage was found in the joint.
“We thought long and hard about it,” said Manager Mickey Callaway on Sunday. “The more we talked about it, the more we realized we had to take care of the season, Jacob deGrom and the New York Mets.”
DeGrom’s place in the 25-player squad will be taken by P.J. Conlon, number 24 on the MLB Prospect list of MLB Pipeline’s meets. Conlon will make his major league debut against the Cincinnati Reds on Monday.
