For the first time in ten years, a franchise from New Orleans won a play-off round in the NBA – and with style. With no home advantage, the Pelicans sweep the Portland Trail Blazers out of the way and were the hottest team in the league in one fell swoop.

New Orleans played resolutely, quickly and could rely on their stars. Anthony Davis declared the Zone his property and Jrue Holiday played the best basketball of his career on both sides of the court.

It’s just annoying that in the second round the probably best team of the last 20 years was waiting, which could fall back on a double MVP named Stephen Curry after injury.

But the Pels did well and could at least tickle the champion a bit in game 3. The fact that Warriors coach Steve Kerr set up the Hampton Five from Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, Andre Iguodala and Draymond Green as Starting Five for the first time (!) in Game 4 was also an indirect praise to the opponent.

The matchup was more than ungrateful for the Pelicans. Against Portland, the franchise still benefited from the blazers’ lack of wing players, but the Dubs had Durant, for whom New Orleans did not have a suitable opponent. The small lineup was simply not suitable for the warriors, who are hard to beat in a shootout anyway. However, this would have been the only chance for the Pels, because defensively there is a lack of defensive specialists on the forward positions.
