Ice Hockey World Championship: Goodbye to the quarter-finals! DEB team loses to Latvia

The German national ice hockey team lost 1:3 (0:0, 0:1, 1:2) against Latvia and thus missed the quarter-finals. The DEB team would have needed a win to keep their chances for the next round.

Germany played at eye level with Latvia for a long time and even had more shots on goal after two thirds with 23:20.

After almost 37 minutes of play, Germany then had an outstanding goalscoring chance, but ultimately missed the final round. The final third then began with another shock for the Olympic runners-up in Pyeongchang: With the first attack the Latvians increased to 2-0 (40:15 minutes), only not to get back in front of Treutle’s box ten minutes later and close the bag 3-0 (47:54).

The DEB team, now with their backs to the wall, tried their luck again on the offensive – and was rewarded by Dominik Kahun. The future NHL professional took a sharp pass from Draisaitl at the left post and put in a tip-in.

For more it was not enough, so after the matches against Norway, Denmark and the USA there was the fourth bankruptcy in the fifth match. They were only successful against outsiders South Korea. In the last two group matches Finland and Canada are still waiting.
