MLB: Angels: Keynan Middleton injured at the sideband of the elbow

The Los Angeles Angels are worried about Keynan Middleton. On the relief, an injury of the collateral ligament in the elbow was detected, after which it was placed on the Disabled List.

An MRI found the damage, the team announced on Monday. Middleton will seek a second opinion before making a final decision on the further treatment of the right-hander.

Lateral ligament injuries in the elbow usually lead to an elbow reconstruction, also called “Tommy John Surgery”. In that case Middleton would be out for at least a year and thus miss the rest of the season.

Middleton replaced Minnesota Twins on Sunday in the eighth inning after only 12 pitches and Eddie Rosario during a 1-1 count in the At-Bat. He had complained of problems in the elbow.

Only on Thursday Middleton was activated by the DL, after he had last been suffering from an inflammation in his elbow. Meanwhile, right-handed Felix Pena, who was most recently active for Triple-A Salt Lake, has taken his place in the 25-player squad.

Middleton leads the Angels with six saves this year. He has a 2.04 ERA over 17 2/3 innings in 16 missions. He also collected 16 strikeouts facing nine walks.
