MLB: Seattles Robinson Cano banned for 80 games
Robinson Cano of the Seattle Mariners has been banned for 80 games for taking illicit funds. This was announced by the MLB on Tuesday. This means that he will be missing from his team for the rest of the season.
Cano has been tested positive for the banned substance Lasix, which is usually used to make other banned substances unrecognisable in urine tests. Cano, who was injured on Sunday by a pitch on his hand, is on the list of inactive players due to his injury, but the ban comes into effect immediately, the league announced.
A use in the postseason is thus excluded.
In a statement published by the Mariners on Twitter: “We are disappointed that Robinson violated the rules of the anti-doping program. Our organization fully supports this program.”
Roninson made a mistake and apologized to the organization and its fans. He explained to his team what had happened and accepted his punishment, it continues.
35-year-old Cano is an eight-time MLB all-star and has beaten four home runs in 169 games this season. It is in the fifth year of a $240 million contract with a term of ten years.
