MLB: White Sox: Doping! Welington Castillo suspended for 80 games
Only a few days after the Seattle Mariners announced the closure of Robinson Cano, MLB has its next doping case! This time Welington Castillo of the Chicago White Sox got it. According to a media report, the catcher will be banned for 80 games.
As ESPN reports, the ban will be officially announced on Thursday. It is not yet clear what substance he is being punished for, but steroids are not supposed to be.
“For me, these are just rumours at the moment,” White Sox manager Rick Renteria was cautious when asked by reporters about his team’s 11-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday. “MLBs are the ones in charge, and unless they officially announce something, I can’t really comment.”
Castillo beats .270 this season with six home runs and 15 RBI. He also played on Wednesday and was 1-5 against Baltimore.
Castillo joined the MLB in 2010 and has played for five clubs. He began his career with the Chicago Cubs before joining the Seattle Mariners in 2015 and then Arizona Diamondbacks. In 2017 Castillo played in Baltimore before returning to Chicago in 2018. In 637 games he beat .260 with a.749 OPS, 86 home runs and 298 RBI.
