NBA: Spurs: Super-Max for Kawhi Leonard?
Gregg Popovich and the San Antonio Spurs are apparently facing a meeting with Kawhi Leonard. The superstar could then be presented with a contract in the super-max range.
This reports mysanantonio.com. According to this, there will probably be a meeting between Leonard and the Spurs managers this week, in which the player will be convinced of a long-term stay.
Furthermore, there is room to make the maximum offer of 219 million dollars for five years, which it is likely to accept as an early extension in the coming off-season. Leonard’s original contract runs until 2020, with the last year including a player option.
The 26-year-old has only played nine games in the past season, as he was struggling with a calf injury. In the course of rehab, there were repeated irritations: The track doctors had actually declared the player healthy, but Leonard didn’t feel ready and continued his rehab with his own doctors. Meanwhile, however, it should be back to almost 100 percent.
