MLB: Yankees find internal solution as Tanaka replacement
The New York Yankees will remove pitcher Jonathan Loaisiga from their own farm system. The right-hander will take the rotation place of injured Masahiro Tanaka and start against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday.
Manager Aaron Boone announced on Tuesday that Loaisiga will make his MLB debut on Friday. Domingo German, another rookie, will start on Thursday, while Ace Luis Severino will take his turn on Saturday.
“He’s really talented, we think he has a bright future ahead of him,” Boone said about Loaisiga. “His stuff is really good. He’s someone attacking the strike zone.”
Loaisiga is 6-1 with a 3.00 ERA and 58 strikeouts in ten games for single-A Tampa and double-A Trenton this season.
Other possible names speculated on were right-handers David Hale and Lefty Justus Sheffield, both currently playing for Triple-A Scranton.
