NBA: Is Draymond Green banking on a possible super-max deal in the summer of 2019?

Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors took less money in 2015 for the Dubs to get into poker with Kevin Durant. According to media reports, the forward will refuse an offer for an early extension because he wants to keep a back door to the Super-Max open.

In 2015, Green signed an extension of $82 million over five years, leaving around $12 million on the table. “I took less so we could hunt KD,” explained Green Chris Haynes of ESPN.

“I don’t think the difference has changed anything for me. Maybe six million more after tax. With Championships it’s different, they change my life.”

However, according to ESPN, Green will reject a new Warriors offer of 72 million over three years this summer, as the current defensive player of the Year 2019 may qualify for the Super Max contract. He would have to become either MVP, All-Star, DPoY or an All-NBA player, then he could earn $226 million over five years.

“I don’t think it’s the Warriors’ turn to make a move and owe me,” Green explained. “If I continue to perform and get better, they have to reward me. Otherwise, another team will.”

Green was drafted by the Warriors in the second round in 2012 and has become one of the best defensive players in the league. The Forward was in the All-Defensive First Team three times, this year he was only appointed to the Second Team.
