MLB: San Francisco: New star breaks new hand
Evan Longoria broke a bone in her hand. The San Francisco Giants Third Baseman sustained the injury after a hit-by-pitch against the Miami Marlins on Thursday.
Longoria was caught in the fourth inning by a pitch from Marlin starter Dan Straily on the left hand. He then remained in the game as a base runner before he had to be replaced in the field. According to an initial diagnosis, the fracture is of the fifth metacarpal bone. A decision on a possible operation is not expected until the next few days.
“Our goal is obviously to come to a decision as quickly as possible and then move forward, whether that means putting on a cast, putting it down or having an operation,” Longoria told reporters.
“That’s a hard hit for us,” said Manager Bruce Bochy following his Giants’ 6-3 win in 16 innings. It is the same injury that Pitcher Madison Bumgarner had suffered before. He missed the start of the season completely and only made his season debut on June 5th.
Longoria beats in his first season in San Francisco.246 with ten home runs and 34 RBI. He had come to the west coast during the off-season via Trade from the Tampa Bay Rays.
