MLB: Players throw up twice on the lawn

Relief pitcher Adrian Houser of the Milwaukee Brewers attracted unwanted attention on Sunday. The right-hander had to throw up twice during an inning, but still pitched it to the end.

In the 9-10 defeat against Philadelphia Phillies, Houser was substituted in the eighth inning, came to the mound and threw up for the first time behind the mound after a few warm-up pitches. Manager Craig Counsell came to him and asked about his well-being. He then threw a few more warm-up pitches and stayed in the game.

Meanwhile the ground crew cleaned the place and the inning started. But after two hitters Houser threw up again. Counsell came out to him again, but this time Houser remained in the game. He allowed a run and then managed to complete the inning.

“A lot of things just came together for Adrian today,” Counsell said after the game. “He didn’t feel bad, but he had to get up very early, didn’t have enough to eat, it was hot and probably a little nervous that he was ordered to the Big Leagues today.”

It was only Houser’s fifth MLB appearance and the third this season – in 2015 he pitched twice for Milwaukee. “I think it was a combination of the trip this morning and not eating much today. I tried to stay hydrated in the bullpen. It’s pretty hot in here compared to Colorado Springs. Everything together just caught me,” said Houser of his eventful day.
