MLB: Big Sexy overtakes legend for record

Bartolo Colon has clinched his 244th victory in the MLB and is now the most victorious pitcher from the Dominican Republic. At the 6:3 of his Texas Rangers over the Kansas City Royals, “Big Sexy” overtook a Hall-of-Famer.

“Of course I’m happy to have passed a Hall-of-Famer,” Colon told reporters. We’re talking about Juan Marichal, who has 243 wins in the MLB. “He’s a Dominican and a Hall-of-Famer. And of course I thank God and my family. You’ve always supported me in my career. You’ve helped me play all these years.”

Another milestone could be waiting for Colon at his next start, as he now ranks second among all Latin American pitchers in most victories. Only Dennis Martinez from Nicaragua has one more (245).

“Marichal was 1, but now I have 244. I know Dennis Martinez still stands before me,” Colon added. “If God gives me the health and time, I am ready to overtake him and become the Latin American with more victories.”

Colon didn’t have his best day on Monday, though. He gave three runs on nine hits (BB) in six innings and managed just one strikeout. However, Chin-Soo Choo’s home runs and compatriot Adrian Beltre ultimately helped him to victory.
