MLB: Liga blocks Straily for five games after a drop
MLB banned Dan Straily from the Miami Marlins for five games. The starting pitcher had intentionally pitched Buster Posey from the San Francisco Giants.
In Tuesday’s 6-3 defeat of the Marlins in California, Straily was expelled for the action in the second inning of the field. At the same time, his manager Don Mattingly was kicked out, as both benches had already been warned by the Umpire. Mattingly has been banned from a game. Both also have to pay unspecified fines.
Earlier, Giants starter Dereck Rodriguez Marlins-Outfielder Lewis Brinson had already pitched, leading to warnings from Home Plate Umpire Andy Fletcher. Posey had also hit a home run in the first inning.
Already on Thursday, however, it leaked that Straily will appeal against the punishment.
