NBA: ATL-GM: Schröder and Young fit together

The Atlanta Hawks have drawn a new point guard in draft at Trae Young. Does this mean the anticipated departure of Dennis Schröder? According to GM Travis Schlenk not, the two Playmakers fit together in his opinion.

Schlenk explained this to the media during the NBA Drag on Thursday evening. The Hawks had previously signed Trae Young after a trade with the Dallas Mavericks after originally picking Luka Doncic with the third right to vote in the draft.

“To be honest, we were undecided between the two,” said Schlenk upon request. “You are the two best playmakers in the draft. We were happy with Luka, but when the chance of another first round pick arose, it made sense to achieve both goals.”

The Hawks now have three first round picks in the 2019 draft and the team is in the middle of a rebuilding process in which Schröder apparently has little interest. The German expressed several times the interest to be traded. The decision of the franchise from Georgia to draft a point guard was a good one. However, the option to go into the new season with Young and Schröder remains open. Schlenk indicated that Young and Schröder could also stand together on the field.
