NBA: Spurs probably only want to trade Kawhi to the East

The rumors about a trade by Kawhi Leonard do not stop. San Antonio is still reluctant to give up the superstar, but when it comes to that, the Spurs prefer to trade their forward to the east.

That’s Sam Amick from USA Today. So there are two options for the Texans. Either the situation relaxes and Leonard stays at the Alamo River or the Spurs will try to trade the 26-year-old to the east.

This coincides with an article by Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, who wrote that the Spurs have broken off any talks with the Los Angeles Lakers. L.A. is probably the preferred destination for Leonard himself.

“Kawhi and his family mean a lot to us,” Spurs-GM R.C. Buford tried to smooth the waves a little after the draft. “Nobody wished we were in this situation now, but now we are trying to make the best of it and build a good relationship with Kawhi again. but our goal is for Kawhi to remain a part of our organization.”

Leonard can become an unrestricted free agent in 2019 and it would be a big risk for any team other than the Lakers to take on Kawhi, as it is possible that Kawhi will join the Lakers next summer either way.
