MLB: Three to four weeks break for Sanchez

The New York Yankees have put Gary Sanchez on the Disabled List with a groin injury. The catcher will probably be out of action for three to four weeks and thus also miss the All-Star game.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone called the injury Sanchez sustained on Sunday at the 5-6 defeat in Tampa Bay a first degree strain. “Every time the groin or thigh is involved, you’re a little nervous. But we feel that this diagnosis is rather good news,” Boone said.

As a result, the Yankees made several moves on Monday to set up the squad for the next few days. As expected, Kyle Higashioka joined the Big League squad to replace Sanchez. Pitcher Giovanny Gallegos from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre was also activated. The Yankees sent Clint Frazier back to the Minor Leagues for him.

“It’s a chance and I’ll make the most of it,” Higashioka said upon his arrival in Philadelphia, where the Yankees are playing a three-game series this week. “My job is to help the team if I get the chance.”
