MLB: “Increased interest” in Baltimore star

The biggest name in trade rumors regarding the MLB’s non-waiver trade deadline on July 31 is Manny Machado. The shortstop of the Baltimore Orioles is the object of desire of many clubs. Now the New York Yankees should also show “increased interest”.

Reporter Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Yankees have now also entered into possible negotiations with the O’s.

According to a media report from the weekend, seven teams submitted bids. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers are ahead, but an ambitious offer from the Yankees would be considered more attractive for Baltimore, as New York’s farm system is still one of the best in the league.

Rosenthal argues, however, that it remains unlikely that the O’s would do business with their rival from the AL East and would rather send their franchise face to the National League.

After his contract ends, Machado becomes a free agent in the winter and is considered the biggest name on the market alongside Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals.

Machado has been playing for the Orioles since 2012 and this year for the first time as a full-time shortstop, having previously manned third base. Machado is currently playing his best season with 21 home runs, 60 RBI and a.943 OPS. This corresponds to an OPS+ of 160 – four percentage points above his career average.
