MLB: “Fuck you man” demoted to Manager: Player

The Houston Astros have sent their budgetary closer Ken Giles to the Minor Leagues. Previously, he acknowledged a replacement after weak performance with an insult in the direction of his manager A.J. Hinch.

“Fuck you man” was what Giles said to Hinch after he replaced him in Tuesday’s match against Oakland Athletics in the ninth inning. Previously, Giles allowed three singles and one run in a row at 4:0 without scoring a single out. When he was replaced, it was 4-1, but the Astros won the game in the end.

It was the right-hander’s second rage attack this year. Earlier this season, after a poor performance in a game against the Yankees, he punched himself in the face.

“He’s had success in this league in the past and this year,” Hinch said to Giles’ degradation to MLB.com: “But right now he needs to fix a few things to be the relief he can be.”

General Manager Jeff Luhnow also commented on the situation, but did not want to comment on the insult on Wednesday: “As A.J. Hinch also said, this is a baseball decision. I don’t know what he said. Things that players say to each other or to the coaching staff are things that stay in the cabin. We take care of this separately. This is all about baseball.”

Giles was sent on Triple-A team Fresno Grizzlies. To fill the vacancy in the squad, the Astros ordered left-handed Cionel Perez from the Double-A club Corpus Christi Hooks into the Big Leagues.
