The first quarter-final game had a prominent spectator in LeBron James – for the first time in the Summer League, the King watched his new team as close as possible, as did youngster Brandon Ingram. And both might have liked what they saw: The young Lakers also won the fifth game in a row, after a dominant first quarter (33:14) the victory was never in any way endangered.
The Wings Josh Hart (18 points, 4 assists) and second-round pick Svi Mykhailiuk (19 points) again showed strong performances, but besides them three other players also landed in double figures, whereby Jeff Ayres with 10 points and 10 rebounds played a minimalistic double-double. Moritz Wagner was still out, Isaac Bonga was used for five minutes, in which he produced 3 points (1/4 FG), 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 turnover.
As so often in Vegas, Henry Ellenson was the best man in the Pistons with 22 points and Zack Lofton with 21 points. Bruce Brown, on the other hand, scored 11 points but only pocketed 3 of his 17 throws. The Lakers will now play Cleveland in the semi-finals.
Points: John Holland (23) – Chris Boucher (18)
Rebounds: Okaro White (10) – Chris Boucher (8)
Assists: Collin Sexton (6) – Marquis Teague (5)
The second quarter-finals in Las Vegas took place in the third quarter. Before the Raptors had led, meanwhile with 6 points ahead, but then they lost the thread completely: Throughout the third quarter, Toronto scored a meagre 4 points. Cleveland capitalized on this, extended the lead to 21 points and then stopped looking back.
John Holland was topscorer with 23 points (8/12 FG, 4/7 3FG) on the Cavs side, but again No.8-Pick Collin Sexton was very strong with 18 points and 6 assists and some dynamic actions. The young Guard should play a very important role in the plans of Cavs coach Ty Lue, who also sat in the hall as a spectator.
Chris Boucher (18 points), Malachi Richardson and Alfonzo McKinnie (both 14) were the most convincing Raptors. O.G. Anunoby was spared as well as Ante Zizic and Cedi Osman on the other side.
