NFL: Rodgers also wants to play at 40 for Green Bay

Aaron Rodgers enters his 14th season in the NFL and turns 35 in December. He still doesn’t think about quitting and at 40 he still wants to be the quarterback of the Green Bay Packers.

“It would be great to play at 40,” Rodgers said at NBC Sports. “Of course, Tom[Brady] is writing a new chapter in this book. Brett[Favre] also had a great season at 40. My goal is to be able to move as I do at 40.”

For Rodgers, however, the contract negotiations are due for the time being in addition to the new season. The current contract is still in the books at two years. Rodgers could then sign a contract that is largely guaranteed and makes him the best paid player in the league, even in old age.

“The only reason I think about it is because people are talking about it,” Rodgers continued. “I think it makes sense to think about a less traditional contract. If there is a possibility, we should talk about it. I think that there are ways of drafting contracts which, on the one hand, guarantee the team’s continued competitiveness and, on the other hand, give the players more freedom.”

Rodgers explained that his goal is to stay with the Packers until the end of his career. But with the Wisconsin franchise, there’s no guarantee. “They traded Brett Favre and Jordy Nelson. They did not renew the contracts of Charles Woodson and Julius Peppers. You make the decision that is in the best sense of the team. It could be me.”
