NBA: Media: Celtics and RFA Smart are approaching
The Boston Celtics and Restricted Free Agent have come closer to an agreement according to various media reports. According to this, the Celtics have submitted a new offer to the Guard for several years.
This is reported by Adrian Wojnarowksi of ESPN. According to the Newsbreaker, Smart’s agent, Happy Walters, is involved in numerous talks with Celtics GM Danny Ainge. A new four-year contract worth between 46 and 50 million dollars is to be signed.
Most recently, it had been reported that Smart was frustrated by the Celtics after no agreement could initially be reached. There were also rumours that the Sacramento Kings could submit an offer sheet to the Guard.
The market for Restricted Free Agents is extremely difficult this summer as many teams operate near or above the luxury tax limit. Rodney Hood (Cleveland Cavaliers) or Clint Capela (Houston Rockets) are also without a new contract.
Smart made a name for himself with the Boston Celtics mainly through his defense. In addition, the playmaker scored 10.2 points and 4.8 assists per game last season.
