NFL: Minnesota Vikings offensive line coach Tony Sparano deceased
Tony Sparano, offensive line coach at the Minnesota Vikings, passed away on Sunday morning. This was announced to the franchise in the evening. The club did not give any information about the circumstances of the death. Sparano, who joined the Vikings in 2016, turned 56.
In a press release, the Vikings addressed the family:
“Our thoughts are with Jeanette and the entire Sparano family while we all mourn the loss of Tony. Tony was a passionate and unique person who cared a lot about his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. We’re gonna miss Tony’s presence at the Vikings. All we think about is Tony’s family during this incredibly difficult time. We ask the entire NFL and the Vikings family to consider the Sparanos.”
His NFL career began in 1999 with positions as head coach with the Miami Dolphins and the Oakland Raiders. In 2016 he was appointed offensive line coach at the Vikings. In its first season, the team did not qualify for the playoffs. Last season, the club failed in the semi-finals of the NFC Championships.
The Sparano family is asking the media for privacy. The Vikings will provide further information as needed.
