MLB: The groin! Sanchez injured again
The New York Yankees have put Catcher Gary Sanchez back on the Disabled List. One day after being criticised for his lack of intensity in the last game of Monday’s game at the Tampa Bay Rays, he was found to have another groin injury.
An MRI on Tuesday showed a strain in the right groin area. This is an aggravation of the same injury that had already sent him to the DL in June. “It’ll take at least a few weeks,” manager Aaron Boone told reporters.
“I’m used to being tense in a certain part of your body,” Sanchez said on Tuesday: “This is nothing new. You have some pain here and there and you just bite your teeth. You keep playing and at some point they’ll leave. I told the physios after the game on Monday that I was a little tense and when I went to the physios this morning, we did the MRI.”
As with Sanchez’s last DL stay, Kyle Higashioka will once again fill the open squad spot and serve as a backup for Austin Romine.
