MLB: Boston gets reinforcements from Los Angeles

The Boston Red Sox have secured Ian Kinsler in a trade with the Los Angeles Angels. The Second Baseman comes to the East Coast in exchange for two top 30 prospects.

Kinsler is likely to be the Sox’s second baseman after Dustin Pedroia’s return remains uncertain. He is to make his debut in Fenway Park on Tuesday in the game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

“We are very happy to have Ian,” said Dave Dombrowski, President of Baseball Operations Bostons, on Monday: “We also received cash in the deal. We are very happy. We have tried to upgrade our club as much as possible. He has played very well for a very long time. He’s done well lately. He’s a winner. He’s a very good defensive player and still has good instincts on the court.”

With Kinsler’s access, Eduardo Nunez will also be available at second base and will initially take over as a full-time replacement for the injured Rafael Devers at third base. Brock Holt in turn gives the utility guy.

The Angels in turn will receive left-handed Williams Jerez and right-handed Ty Buttrey, both in the recently updated Top 30 Prospect list of MLB Pipeline of the Red Sox.
