MLB: Reds Disband Star Defenders

The Atlanta Braves have strengthened again in the fight for the playoffs shortly before the non-waiver trade deadline on Tuesday at 22:00 (CEST). In one trade, they took outfielder Adam Duvall of the Cincinnati Reds.

In a four-player trade, the Braves acquired last year’s All-Star, who is both a good defender and could be the right side of a Platoon with Center Fielder Ender Inciarte.

In return, the Reds will receive Outfielder Preston Tucker and right-handers Matt Wisler and Lucas Sims.

“We believe Duvall suits us well,” said Braves General Manager Alex Anthopoulos on Monday. “We really value outfield defense, and then he brings power with him. These are good qualities, and they are hard to find. Moreover, there is the fact that it will be admitted to arbitration for the first time next year, so we still have a long way to go before we can control it in the future.”

After beating at least 30 home runs for the Reds twice in a row, Duvall currently has 15 home runs and a.685 OPS this season. This means that his offensive production declined, but defensively he ranks seventh in the “outs above average” according to Statcast. He is still one of the best defenders in the outfield.
