NFL: Darnold signs rookie contract with the jets

It took longer than expected but now Sam Darnold has finally signed his rookie contract with the New York Jets. This means that the last of the first-round picks on the quarterback position is now officially under contract.

“What’s up, jet fans? It’s a pleasure to finally be under contract,” says a delighted Darnold in a video tweet of the jets. “I’m very excited. This is a special moment.”

The franchise has signed the rookie for four years and a total volume of 30.2 million dollars. The deal includes $20 million in guarantees and the usual option for a fifth year from the team.

Darnold joined his teammates on the field immediately after signing the contract and was welcomed with applause as he walked onto the field. He’s the 255th of the 256 rookies who signed their contract. The last one without a contract is Bears-Linebacker Roquan Smith.
