WWE: WWE SummerSlam: The cash-in MUST come!

At the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, Sunday night is the SummerSlam. In the Main Event, Brock Lesnar, who is about to leave for the UFC, will defend the Universal Championship against Roman Reigns. WWE Champion AJ Styles meets Samoa Joe and Braun Strowman could lose his Money in the Bank case to Kevin Owens.

The match is unfortunately overshadowed by the story around the Eaters of World and Matt Hardy’s possible career end, because of which the Three-Way on Raw was preferred. Accordingly, another tag title match at the slam was not necessarily to be expected. However, it is more than pleasing for those involved and the presence of the title and the completely revamped raw division.

Equally gratifying is that the extremely talented revival is finally close to the title in the Main Roster. But since they both look burned after their various injuries at the management and the B-Team does an excellent job, I bet on a title defence by rollup or if necessary disqualification against the heels.

From the much celebrated SmackDown match against AJ Styles to the SummerSlam Kickoff against Rusev Day – that’s how it can go. However, Cien is still fresh in the Main Roster and it is absolutely right to build him up slowly after he has already proven himself in the ring. The question is how much he and his business partner can win here, as the dispute between Rusev/Lana and Aiden English will probably take center stage.

The victory for Andrade “Cien” Almas & Zelina Vega is accordingly certain through the intervention of English, who will once again “accidentally” distract his “friends”. On this occasion one should finally send the storyline into the next phase and let Aiden finally do the gymnastics against Rusev, because otherwise the whole thing stretches similarly to the Banks/Bayley storyline. Always assuming the latest rumors about Rusev’s WWE farewell are once again just nonsense…

Nothing was as safe as the spot in the Kickoff for the Cruiserweights. On the one hand it’s a pity, on the other hand they can show up again at a PPV – also at the second most important one of the year. They will definitely get time in the XXL Kickoff and the best match of the three is guaranteed.

Gulak has grown enormously in the last year and besides his already above-average in-ring skills, he has also developed an entertaining personality for which he has been given the necessary time. Cedric, on the other hand, recently had negative headlines due to old Twitter posts, so a title change doesn’t seem odd at all.

However, I’m betting on a lucky title defence for Cedric Alexander per Surprise Rollup. But a title win for Drew in one of the following weekly shows is absolutely conceivable.

Unfortunately Harper&Rowan still can’t really carry me along with all sympathy. This is all the more true when one remembers how strongly the SmackDown Tag Division is occupied! She was already on fire in the run-up with the Usos – which unfortunately are currently completely wasted – and the New Day, but with the addition of The Bar, Gallows&Anderson and of course SAnitY you have potential here to the brink.

Unfortunately, too little has been made out of it until now, but that may still come. Since a few titles have to change at the slam and the three unicorns always go, I bet on a New Day title win to drive them closer to the record and reignite the race in this division.

This feud could be so much more entertaining if it wasn’t primarily based on Vince McMahon’s most annoying weakness: How often can one emphasize that Finn is too small, too narrow, too slender for the WWE? Fact is: The man has a good look, is perfectly trained and is one of the best workers in the roster. But they prefer to let him grin stupidly and bring playhouses for children into play – an unworthy storyline both for Bálor and for Corbin, who makes the best of his situation with hardness and good mic work.

The Demon King’s comeback at the SummerSlam would be a great success, but it seems to have been mothballed completely. Accordingly, I bet on a dirty victory for Baron Corbin, who seemed to be noticeably on the way up again at last and urgently needs the PPV compensation in this feud. Maybe, despite his constable role, he may even be allowed to wrestle without a shirt at some point, which suits the gimmick, but in a wrestling ring just seems ridiculous.

In principle, one should have expected a three-way with Randy Orton, but thanks to another incredibly embarrassing backstage scandal (keyword handshake with extras), the Viper has other problems and probably shouldn’t be too present. Now that even the TV station Fox has taken up the subject, WWE will take care not to put Orton in the limelight in order to avoid a big media hoax about sexual harassment.

Nevertheless, I assume Orton will intervene here, which will result in a DQ victory for Jeff Hardy. Jeff’s switch to SmackDown has not been as strong as expected so far, especially due to injury, but the face page is not too crowded – all the more so if Daniel Bryan should not extend his contract. Accordingly, the Charismatic Enigma must be protected here. Nakamura is also a more than worthy champion who should hold the title for a while.
