MLB: New York Military Hospital is getting bigger and bigger

The New York Yankees’ hospital is getting bigger and bigger. On Tuesday the Bronx Bombers also put Didi Gregorius with a bruised heel on the Disabled List. How long it will fail is unclear.

Gregorius suffered injury in the Yankees’ 10-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday in a collusion with Toronto First Baseman Kendrys Morales. Meanwhile, First Baseman Luke Voit, who was ordered up by Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, took the vacant squad place of Gregorius.

Meanwhile, in Gregorius’ absence, rookie Gleyber Torres will mainly play shortstop, after acting as second baseman so far. In Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over the Miami Marlins, Torres already held his original position on the left side of the infield.

“Didi is obviously very important for what we do in the middle of our lineup and in the middle of the field – he’s like our quarterback out there,” praised manager Aaron Boone Gregorius. “He does so many things incredibly well that we will certainly miss him, but we also have the feeling that we have people who are able to stand in for him while he is hurt. And hopefully we’ll just talk about a short period of time.”

But Boone could not say exactly how long Gregorius would fail. “We hope it won’t be long. I think the next few days will tell us what happens next. However, he is feeling better today than yesterday. I know he was in Yankee Stadium to do a torso workout. Right now, the physios are trying to get out the swelling, which has already gone down a bit,” Boone said on Tuesday.

With the Yankees, Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, Gregorius and CC Sabathia are currently on the Disabled List, although Sabathia will return on Friday. Giancarlo Stanton is also struggling with thigh problems and Closer Aroldis Chapman left the game against Miami on Tuesday with new knee problems and will be thoroughly examined on Wednesday.
