MLB: Stress reaction! Premature end for Japanese
The 2018 season is over for Pitcher Yu Darvish of the Chicago Cubs. The right-handed person was diagnosed with a stress reaction in the elbow.
After Darvish had to stop his rehabilitation start after just one inning on Sunday, the Japanese rider underwent an MRI on Monday that revealed the injury. It will be out for the rest of the season.
“We believe that this stress reaction has burdened him since the end of May,” team president Theo Epstein said in a telephone conference with reporters. In addition, Epstein stated that Darvish had also suffered triceps distortion.
“At least now we understand what has hindered him,” Epstein added. “We had a pitcher last year named Alec Mills who’s been through the same thing. Even then, it took a while before the diagnosis came. Stress reactions are difficult to diagnose. They’re not visible on normal scans.”
Darvish joined the Cubs at the beginning of the season and signed a six-year contract worth 126 million dollars. This season, however, he only managed eight starts for his new team. He was 1-3 with a 4.95 ERA until his injury in May.
