NFL: OBJ deal before the start of the season? Giant’s optimistic

Odell Beckham Jr. could receive a long-awaited improvement of the employment contract before the start of the season. The New York Giants are very optimistic that the new deal will soon be concluded, according to media reports.

Beckham refrained from a holdout, although he often stressed insisting on a new contract at much better terms. Now both parties are said to have come so close that a deal could be made against the Jacksonville Jaguars before the Giants start of the season on September 9th. This is reported by ESPN.

The new contract could make Odell Beckham the best paid receiver in the NFL. The 25-year-old would then earn more than 17 million dollars a year and see more than 55 million euros in guarantees. These figures are set out in the contracts of Antonio Brown (Pittsburgh Steelers) and Mike Evans (Tampa Bay Buccaneers).

Beckham is one of two receivers that have not yet received a new contract from the twelve wideouts selected in the first two rounds of the 2014 draft. The receiver worried the franchise several times because of its character. The team also wanted to wait for Beckham’s broken ankle to heal.

Beckham has not yet participated in the first two preseason games. However, the video-out in the training camp is said to have made a very good impression and even participated in the joint practices with the Detroit Lions. In addition, the relationship with the new head coach Pat Shurmur should be excellent.
