MLB: Champions extend with managers in the long run

The Houston Astros have extended the contract of manager AJ Hinch until the end of the 2022 season. At the same time, they had great expectations of their skipper.

“When I hired AJ back then, I said at the press conference,’AJ will be our manager when we win the first World Series for Houston,” said General Manager Jeff Luhnow on Thursday.

But Luhnow added: “Now I tell you that AJ will be the manager when we win our second and hopefully third World Series for Houston”.

Hinch’s original contract expired at the end of 2018 with an option for 2019.

Numerous stars of the team, including Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, George Springer and Alex Bregman, were also present at the press conference on Thursday in Minute Maid Park. In her direction Hinch said: “Without you I wouldn’t be here and certainly wouldn’t get this chance. The game is about the players and always will be. “And being your manager is by far the best job I’ve ever had in baseball.”

Hinch (44) took over Astros in 2015 and since then has a record of 353-266 in the Regular Season. He led Houston twice to the playoffs and to winning the World Series in 2017.
