NBA: Pelicans agree with new Point Guard
The New Orleans Pelicans have reached an agreement with Restricted Free Agent Tyrone Wallace. His old team, the Los Angeles Clippers, now have three days to match the offer of the Pels.
As Shams Charania of The Athletic reports on Twitter, Wallace signed an offer sheet from the Pelicans on Monday. According to Ian Begley of ESPN, this is a two-year contract for the minimum (about $3 million), apparently only the first year is guaranteed. Whether the Clippers will match the offer or let the Point Guard go is not yet clear.
Wallace was contracted as a two-way player last season and made 30 appearances in the NBA (19 starts). The 24-year-old performed well with an average of 9.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists.
The Pelicans have been looking for a backup point guard for a while. In August, New Orleans held a workout with Wallace, Ty Lawson and Darius Morris, among others.
