MLB: Japanese superstar provides novelty
Premiere for Shohei Ohtani: The two-way player of the Los Angeles Angels beat a home run against a left-hander in the MLB for the first time on Tuesday against the Texas Rangers.
In the Angels’ 2-4 defeat in Arlington/TX, Ohtani first took two strikeouts against Rangers starter Mike Minor. But in the sixth inning, Ohtani hit a home run in the Right-Center Field. It was his 16th home run of the season.
“I had a few chances with runners on base and didn’t use them, so I’m not completely satisfied with today’s result,” Ohtani told reporters, adding: “But I do have the feeling that with every at-bat against a left-hander I get better and better.
“Obviously, he made an adjustment. He’s a good player and a good HItter,” said Minor to Ohtani’s home run.
So far, Ohtani has had a.568 OPS against left-handers – against right-handers, on the other hand, he has a 1,028 OPS.
