MLB: True Story! Trevor strikes three times
Trevor Story led the Colorado Rockies to a 5-3 win over the San Francisco Giants with three home runs and a serial sweep. His second long ball was also the longest in the statcast era.
Story was unstoppable. The shortstop of the Rockies beat home runs in his first three At-Bats and contributed significantly to the success at home. The second home run in the fourth inning was particularly remarkable, flying 505 feet according to Statcast, a new record since data collection began in 2015.
The previous record was held by Giancarlo Stanton in the service of the Miami Marlins. The Outfielder beat a 504-foot Homun against the Rockies in 2016, also in Denver/Colorado Coors Field.
Story still had a chance for a fourth home run in the eighth inning, but then he got a strikeout. It was nevertheless his first three-homerun game in the MLB and his fifth with several long balls this season. All three homers, however, were handed over by Giants starter Andrew Suarez.
With their victory and sweep over the Giants, the Rockies also extended their lead in the National League West to 1 1/2 games ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Meanwhile, the latter lost at home 3:7 against the New York Mets.
