NBA: Everyone: Boston time “most important of my life”
Ray Allen will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame on Saturday night. At a press conference on Thursday in Springfield, the former sniper spoke again about the dispute with the Boston Celtics.
Allen had played there from 2007 to 2012 and won a championship. However, the fact that he switched to the Miami Heat in 2012, a rival, pissed off not only the fans in Boston, but also his former teammates. Later this week, Allen had already said that he did not expect his former teammates to congratulate him on his admission to the Hall of Fame.
On Thursday he said: “People watch how I left, but I preferred to think about how I lived when I was in Boston,” Allen said. “This was the most important time of my life because I had never won before. We’ve won. And that’s the most important thing to me, that people remember this time together.”
Allen came to Boston in 2007, just like Kevin Garnett, to form a Big Three with Paul Pierce. The Celtics won the championship in their first year together and lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2010 finals.
“I understand why some people are angry with me because they loved the master team so much and because I was a part of it,” Allen said. “But as we all know, it’s a business and in the end it’s up to you to decide when it’s time to break up the tents. And there are so many factors involved.”
Allen completed a total of 18 seasons in the NBA and was All-Star ten times. His 2,973 triples hit are NBA record. He was NBA Champion once with Boston (2008) and once with Miami (2013).
