Golf: Show-Match Tiger Woods vs. Phil Mickelson: Place, Date, Prize Money
The battle of the giants is confirmed. With Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, the supposedly best golfers of their generation compete in a head-to-head match. Here you can find all information about the show match between the two old masters.
Woods and Mickelson are among the highest paid golfers in the world. Together they won 19 major titles. The winner of the showdown will receive nine million dollars in prize money.
The spectacle will take place on the weekend of Thanksgiving. The Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas will be the venue of the competition on November 23rd. Some factors such as time and transmission are not yet known.
Since 2012 Tiger Woods is back in the US team for the Ryder Cup. This was announced by team captain Jim Furyk on September 4. In addition to Woods, Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau also received wildcards for the team competition between the USA and Europe.
Woods has already been nominated seven more times for the Ryder Cup. This is Mickelson’s twelfth nomination in a row. He sets a new record. It is not yet known which player will receive the fourth wildcard.
Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have been bitter competitors for many years. However, in recent years a deep friendship has developed from numerous duels. At the Players Championship in May, Mickelson had the idea of a show match. “Why don’t we leave the whole tournament thing behind and play one-on-one for a high stakes?”
No sooner said than done. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson compete for prize money of around nine million US dollars – a more than considerable sum.
At the show match between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, both actors will wear microphones and thus create added value for the viewers on the TV screen. Never before has there been anything comparable in elitist golf. “That allows us to be a little more authentic, if you like,” Mickelson explains. “We think there will be some interest, but I’ll try to present it in a way you don’t see in normal broadcasts.”
Mickelson continues: “With only two guys we should have a completely different experience with the fans. Because there will be less crowds, which will not necessarily have barriers, they can walk on the fairway and close to the greens. The idea behind it is not only to have this great match, but also an interactive experience so that fans can see something they have never seen before in a golf broadcast”.
