MLB: First playoff team 2018 is set

The Boston Red Sox scored their 99th victory of the season on Tuesday at the 7:2 over the Toronto Blue Jays and were the first team in the MLB to reach the playoffs. Pitching Ace Chris Sale also returned.

After trailing 2-0 after six innings, the Red Sox turned up in the seventh inning and scored four runs. Pinch-Hitter Brock Holt delivered the groundbreaking hit – a 3-Run-Homerun to lead Boston.

“It’s something special when you reach the playoffs and have the chance to win the title,” Holt said, adding: “We’re excited, but we still have a lot of work ahead of us.

By winning, the Red Sox have secured at least one wildcard spot and have the best record in baseball with 99-46, while in the American League East they are leading nine games ahead of the New York Yankees and their magic number to win the division is 9.

The Red Sox reached the playoffs for the third time in a row, which they had already achieved from 2003 to 2005 and 2007 to 2009. In addition, reaching the post-season after the 145th game is the sixth fastest playoff move-in ever for an MLB team.

Meanwhile, starter Chris Sale returned from the Disabled List and was supposed to pitch two innings, but after just one he was finished. He allowed a hit and hit a batsman, but did not make a run (2 SO).
