MLB: Chicago star flies in playwear to DC
Anthony Rizzo caused a sensation when he travelled to Washington/DC in full baseball uniform on the Chicago Cubs flight to catch up. At the same time, he criticized the plans of the MLB.
After the game between the Washington Nationals and Cubs was cancelled on Sunday due to heavy rain, the MLB decided to catch up on Thursday, although there was still a chance of rain due to Hurricane Florence.
As a result, the Cubs flew to the capital directly after the game against Milwaukee at home on Wednesday and Rizzo arrived directly in his Cubs uniform, which he held during the flight. And for the game at Nationals Park he already arrived in the blue alternate uniform.
On Twitter the First Baseman posted two pictures of the flight with the comment: “Staying game ready”.
“I just had a little fun during a hard part of the season,” Rizzo said in the DC locker room, adding, “I mean, we’re in an emergency situation predicting more rain. It’s kind of a joke, so why shouldn’t I keep making jokes and having fun?”
Another option would have been to catch up at the end of the Regular Season, but the MLB decided to schedule the match on the two teams’ Thursday day off.
“What can you do”, Rizzo asked resignedly and also hinted that he did without more clothes and also wanted to fly back to Chicago in his uniform.
The game itself ended with a success for the Cubs: They defeated the Nationals 4:3 after ten innings. On Friday, Chicago will continue at home against the Cincinnati Reds.
